Honestly didn’t think I’d finish the whole thing, but I just kept reading and I want to say thank you for being one of the few voices of reason on the left & not letting the light burn out! You’re right, we need international attention and solidarity now. What they managed to build, we can’t let them die out. Jin, jiyan, azadi!
Hell of a piece, I'm definitely going to read that "Revolution in Rojava" book
Also- in the substack editor, if you put the title of each section in style H1-H4 (either 4 or 5) it will automatically make a contents tab on the left side of the screen, makes long pieces a bit easier to read :)
Beautifully written. There is also a brilliant interview on Agro-ecology in Rojava from 'The Poor Prole's Almanac' that goes into some ecological analysis and coverage in DAANES with people who live in the area and work in those sectors. You can find the episode on Spotify I think.
There has been the creation of Eco-Villages to assist women (and others afaik) who were victims of misogynist violence, war, etc in order for them to learn independence of living for themselves and community, and to learn ecological practices.
There has also been progress in environmental battles too according to this interview, with the councils implementing ecologically beneficial reforestation efforts, combatting mono culture and the disastrous consequences of the anti-ecological practices of the Assad regime. (For example, the under funding of the agri-sector in NES, and the mono-cultural forestation efforts which wasted and polluted the soil in many regions).
Also, I thoroughly recommend people read ‘The Political Ideology of Abdullah Ocalan’ and the numerous essays. They are easy to pick up and give a good rundown of the goals of the revolution.
Again, well written. Biji Serok Apo. Biji Rojava. Jin Jiyan Azadi.
Hey, was the first to read was waiting a lot for this piece since Kurdistan is one of my favourite topics. Just wanted to ask for the sources because I would be really Interested in reading further
An incredible piece. You are extremely talented. Sadly that region has been in turmoil for 1000s of years. Hatred in in their "blood". The US needs not to stick our nose in this. It's a futile situation. It's heartbreaking to see all of the people who have suffered. Little children! As a human being, how can you not have sorrow in your heart.
